Survive, Today! - HAVE YOU SURVIVED TODAY?

So this was originally a blog about surviving weird situations. Then it became a blog about puppy mills or something... I don't know I wasn't in charge at that time. Then it was a conspiracy blog. Now it's a blog about travel, health, and technology. Deal with it.

Fishing For Black Marlin Is A Popular Excursion

Black Marlin
A Black Marlin

The Black marlin is a premiere game fish for sport fishermen. Recently the black marlin, which was previously known as Makaira indica, was re-classified as Istiompax indica. Although most commonly associated with the blue marlin, genetically it is most similarly related to the striped/white marlin. This re-classification also links it more closely with sailfish. No matter the classification Black Marlin fishing is a popular recreational activity.

Physical Descriptions

Compared to the Blue Marlin fishing, black marlins have much more strength due to their solid frames. The have smaller dorsal fins and shorter bills which make them more agile in the water. Another way black marlin are different from other marlin is that their bill does not fold over when it is pressed. These are just some of the ways people can distinguish the two species from each other.

Diet

What does the black marlin like to eat? Many things in the ocean will get feasted upon by this predatory species. It likes tuna, cuttlefish and pretty much any other fish it can get its mouth around. The menu for the black marlin is very big because of all the fish in the ocean that are smaller than it.

Full Moon Fishing

Since they offer such an amazing fight for fishermen, black marlin are highly sought after the world over. Research has shown that, for whatever reason, black marlins are much easier to catch during a full moon. Some suggest this is because when there is a full moon fish swim up to the surface to find their food.

Where To Find

Black marlin are also commonly found in the Pacific Ocean. Specifically, near the coasts of Australia and throughout the tropical waters of the indo-pacific. The can also be caught of the coasts of southern California and Chile. Black marlin prefer warmer waters and like to swim just beneath the surface, taunting fishermen. They can also, usually, be found swimming near underwater structures like coral reefs.

Targeting Black Marlin

Black marlins are a favorite target for anglers all over the world due to the fact that they are able to put up such a good fight when they get hooked on a line. Some black marlin can grow to be over fifteen feet long and weigh up to as much as 1,4000 pounds. These are just some of the things fishermen dream about at night when they think about black marlin. If you are interested, you can hire fishing charters that will take you deep out to sea to try and catch one of these marvelous creatures. They will be able to show you the best methods for catching them and have all of the latest in fishing technology.
