Ableton Live 8 - The Selection Marches On

Ableton Live 8 since it's birth in 2001 has been something of an enigma in the world of music production software. It has long been accepted as one of the most reliable and efficient tools for professional quality music production, but it has somehow managed to evade the notoriety that is so often afforded to many of it's competitors. Some have questioned whether this almost flawless record has come at the cost of some of the bite of the others, the ghost in the machine as it were. Here's an Ableton Live 8 review.

Initially designed solely for music recording, the production aspect of the software has perhaps been the surprise package of the series, coming into it's own and arguably overshadowing the recording studio aspect. The loop based synthesizer system very much represents this some would say paradigm changing development. It could be argued that it represents a mechanization of the music. Hopefully this Ableton Live review will convince you it's the software for you.

Adding to the ease of use is the excellent compatibility that Live 8 now provides with all of the major plugin formats such as VST, rex, and so on covered. It is also fully compatible with Re-Wire running as a slave or master device. Unlike the earlier editions, Ableton Live 8 is generally compatible with the vast majority of software and hardware related to music, providing a full studio.

Live is also fully compatible with ReWire devices so can be used in combination with all of the other main music making software either as a host or a slave. It has become one of the industry standards, the wealth of artists who use it both as a performance tool and music recording software is testament to this programs power and versatility.

As a complete studio this piece of software also delivers excellent results, allowing musicians to easily record and edit their work. Much easier than a 4 track or analogue recording device, the incredibly intuitive interface makes it a matter of childsplay to record and edit your work. Sounds are automatically converted into easily editable files which can be edited and played around with just like you would with any digital file.

The simplicity with which such complicated actions can be carried out is incredibly impressive allowing non technical people to digitally manipulate their sonic expressions basically if they have the will to do so and this piece of software. The basics can be learned in a day.

One of the features that is developing in a very promising fashion with each new edition is the live performance element. With early versions of the software it was perhaps somewhat neglected, favoring the composition element of the engine, since the 5th edition Ableton Live as a way to use your laptop as an instrument in itself has really come into it's own. Improvements to the cuing, looping and beat-matching software have finally made it reliable.

Ableton Live continues the series rich tradition of providing excellent all round DJ software giving you incredibly intuitive and effective control over your art as a live performance tool or recording studio. You can search online for other best DJ equipment.
